Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness and soreness in specific areas.

A lot of the time, relating to job types, such as desk workers, or for example long periods of time standing up.

The movements are slower, and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of pain and tension.

How does this work?

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain which will inflame. Over time, other muscles will compensate which then begin to be overused. Deep tissue works by breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement, and can usually focus on a specific problem like the ones below.

Chronic pain, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, muscle tension/spasm, repetitive strain injury, chronic pain, limited mobility, recovery from injuries, postural problems.
